136- Faranjy (foreigner)!

When I left the Monastery, I took a car to
that village, and in the microbus I started hearing the word “Farangy”,
which is a word I got used to hear.. It bears the same meaning in Arabic,
which is “foreigner”. As usual I tried to convince them that I am not that
“farenjy”, “Any Gebs” which means “I am Egyptian” in Amharic.. They ask me
about my religion, I tell them I am Christian, they try to find the cross I
wear in my neck, so I show them the cross tattooed on my right hand.. They
smile, and start to ask me many questions in Amharic, and I try to answer
what I understand of them, or when someone says any
English word.. Some of
the questions goes like: how many Christians are there in Egypt, where am I from in
Egypt, what am I doing here.. etc. This is the traditional scenario
that happens often..

عندما تركت الدير، أخذت عربة تذهب إلى
هذه القرية، وفي الميكروباص بدأت أسمع كلمة “فرنجي”، وهي كلمة أسمعها كثيراً..
وهي بنفس المعنى في اللغة العربية، أي “أجنبي”. وكالعادة أحاول أن أقنعهم بأني
لست “فرنجي” بالمعنى المفهوم، “آنيه جيبس” أي أنا من مصر
بالأمهرية..
فيسألونني عن ديانتي، فأخبرهم مسيحي، فيحاولون البحث عن الصليب الذي أرتديه في
رقبتي، فأريهم وشم الصليب على يدي اليُمنى.. فيبتسمون، ويبدأون في سؤالي أسئلة
كثيرة
بالأمهرية، أحاول الرد حسبما أفهم، أو حسبما يتلفظ أحدهم بكلمة
إنجليزية.. من الأسئلة كم عدد المسيحيين في مصر، ومن أين أنت في
مصر، ماذا
تفعل هنا.. إلخ. هذا هو السيناريو التقليدي الذي يحدث كثيراً..

I took that chance in the car, and got the
permission that I had to ask about the location of the Showa State Diocese
Office in the Village of Fitshe, and God arranged one of them going there,
and he showed me the way.. When I got there I learned from the villagers in
the street that the office was closed that day, as it was Saturday.. Then
one of them offered to show me the exact location of the office, and when we
arrived there, I discovered that he was working in that office; as he opened
the door with his key, and he told me that the Bishop was in the United
States of America for medical treatment, and would be back after two months.. I
told him that there must be someone else in his place.. I told him the
whole thing.. I discovered when I gave the permission to the Abbott that
that permission was for the area of North Shawa, including “Ettissa” State,
which I intended to visit. We’ll leave details about Ettissa at its time, as
it is one of the important places to visit.. He took the original of the
permission, as it was directed to that office.. And I told him that I
wanted to write in the permission that they’ll give me that I want to copy
the manuscripts of Saint Taklehaimanot in particular, as I intend to go a
third time to
Debre Libanos
Monastery!

وقمت باستغلال الفرصة في العربة،
وأخرجت التصريح لأسألهم عن مكان مكتب إيبارشية ولاية شوا في قرية فيتشيه،
ودبَّر الله أحدهم ذاهب تلك الناحية، وأراني الطريق.. وعندما وصلت علمت من
أبناء القرية في الشارع أن المكتب مغلق اليوم، حيث أنه يوم سبت.. ثم جاء أحدهم
وعرض توصيلي إلى مكان المكتب بالضبط، وعند وصلنا، اكتشفت أنه أحد العاملين
بمكتب الإيبارشية؛ حيث فتح المكتب بمفتاح معه، وأخبرني أن الأسقف المسئول في
أمريكا للعلاج، وسيأتي بعد شهرين.. فقلت له بالتأكيد هناك مَن يحل محله..
وحكيت له الأمر.. وكنت قد اكتشفت عندما أعطيت التصريح لرئيس الدير، أن هذا
التصريح لمنطقة شمال شوا، ومنها ولاية “إتيسا” التي أنوي زيارتها، وسنترك
المعلومات عن إتيسا إلى أن يحين موعدها، حيث أنها من الأماكن الهامة للزيارة..
فقام بأخذ النسخة الأصلية للتصريح، حيث أنها موجهة لهذا المكتب.. وقمت بتوضيح
له أنني أريدهم أن يكتبوا أنني أريد أن أنسخ مخطوطات الأنبا تكلا هيمانوت بشكل
خاص، حيث أنوي الذهاب مرة ثالثة
لدير ديبرا ليبانوس!
