Due to this unintended delay in Addis Ababa
for the previously mentioned reasons, I started learning the Amharic
Language, starting from some daily used words, and bought a book for the
beginners.. I started my first attempts to read the Amharic alphabet..
There are some that look-alike letters, and the problem lies in that each letter
has seven ways of writing depending on the pronunciation!! Like the
vowelization of letters in
the Arabic Language.. But it forms a new shape
for the letter by adding some extensions to it! Like: ma, mi, mo, mé, me’,
mao… Same to all the 33 letters!

سابقة الذكر، بدأت أتعلم
اللغة الأمهرية، من خلال بعض الكلمات اليومية، وقمت
أيضاً بشراء كتب للمبتدئين.. وبدأت أولى المحاولات في تعلم قراءة الحروف
الأمهرية.. توجد بعض الحروف المتشابهة، والمشكلة أن كل حرف يكون له سبعة طرق
للكتابة حسب النطق!! مثل التشكيل في
اللغة العربية.. ولكنه يكوِّن شكلاً
جديداً للحرف بإضافة بعض الحركات له! مثل: ما، مي، مو، ميه، مئـ، ماو…
وهكذا لكل حرف من الحروف الـ33!

The Amharic Language has some similarity to
the Arabic Language in some words.. We will put a section
here at St.
Teklahaimanot’s web site for learning Amharic, so to be a reference for me
in the first place through my stay here 🙂 It will also be very useful for
anyone who thinks of traveling to Ethiopia from all over the world..

اللغة الأمهرية يوجد بها بعض التقارب
من اللغة العربية في بعض الكلمات.. وسوف نضع
هنا بموقع القديس تكلاهيمانوت
قسماً بسيطاً لتعليم اللغة الأمهرية، حتى يكون مرجعاً لي في الأساس خلال وجودي
هنا في هذه الفترة 🙂 وأيضاً سيكون نافعاً جداً لأي أحد يفكر في الذهاب إلى
إثيوبيا من أي مكان من أنحاء العالم..

The Amharic numbers are very similar to the
Arabic numbers with some changes.. It is good to note that the name
“Addis Ababa” in the Amharic Language means the “New Flower”. After
starting to learn the language, I started to see the original of some of the
Amharic words in Arabic.. The Amharic word “Addis”, is simply the word
“Hadith” (new) in Arabic! And so on..

باللغة الأمهرية قريبة جداً
من اللغة العربية مع بعض التغيير.. ومن الجدير بالذكر أن اسم “أديس أبابا”
باللغة الأمهرية يعني “الوردة الجديدة”. وبعدما بدأت في تعلم هذه اللغة، بدأت
أرى المصدر الأصلي لبعض الكلمات الأمهرية في اللغة العربية.. فببساطة كلمة
“أديس” الأمهرية، هي نفسها كلمة “حديث” العربية! وهكذا..

I noticed also that each and every thing in
Ethiopia needs a permission from a certain authority!! If I want to take
photographs at religious places, I have to take permission from the
Ethiopian Patriarchate, if in historical places so from the Tourism
Ministry, or to get information from libraries or people, I have to prove my
belonging to a certain organization, and to whom this research is for..
etc. And if you get the first permission, you still have to gain the
willingness to being helped from the rest of the people in charge so they
ease the routine a bit, and having to request your quest again unofficially
at the place you want to visit..! If you got a permission to take
photographs, then is it with flash or no flash? If with flash, then at a
certain distance, or to some pieces and not all, and if without flash, you
have to bear with the poor lighting systems, and not using other helping
tools or accessories.. Of course we have to respect all that, as it is in
the first place to help in keeping the human heritage.. But the problem
lies when some people become inflexible at some obvious things or things
that don’t need intransigence.. And you can’t find flexibility in
accepting other given solutions in an easy way without the help of God..

إكتشفت أيضاً أن كل وأي شيء في
إثيوبيا يحتاج تصريح من جهة ما!! فإذا أردت أن أقوم بالتصوير في أماكن دينية
يجب الحصول على تصريح من البطريركية الحبشية، أو أماكن أثرية فمن وزارة
السياحة، أو الحصول على معلومات من مكتبات أو أشخاص، فيجب إثبات لأي جهة أتبع،
ولأي جهة يتم هذا البحث.. إلخ. وإذا حصلت على التصريح الأول، يجب أن تنال
الرضى من باقي المسئولين حتى يقوموا بتسهيل باقي الإجراءات الروتينية، وأن تقوم
بإعادة الطلب بصورة غير رسمية في المكان المعني بالزيارة..! فإذا حصلت على إذن
التصوير، يوجد بعدها تصوير بفلاش أو بدون فلاش، وإذا كان باستخدام الفلاش، فعلى
بُعد معين، أو لقطع معينة فقط وليس كلها، وإذا كان بدون فلاش، فيجب احتمال
الإضاءة الضعيفة، وعدم استخدام أدوات مساعدة.. وبالطبع يجب علينا احترام هذا
الأمر، حيث أنه في الأساس حفاظاً على التراث الإنساني.. ولكن المشكلة عندما
يتشدد البعض في أمور بديهية أو لا تحتاج إلى تشدُّد.. ولا تجد المرونة في قبول
الحلول الجانبية بصورة سهلة بدون نعمة
الله..
