241- Africano!

أفريكانو!

After a while there
were thunderstorms, and heavy rain (Zenab in Amharic Language) started
falling down.. But after less than 10 minutes a bus passed by, and we ran
towards it through the rain and mud.. The road was even harder than when I
had come due to the rain and slippery land.. The only good thing for the
rain was that dust didn’t come inside the car as what happened while we were
coming.. It took two hours to get to that village!! Then I took another
car to Makaleh, and it took three whole hours!!! That was the most tiring
day I had faced (so far!), as I didn’t get any sleep the day before, and
started that day since 5.00 am.. I arrived at the hotel at 9.00 pm..

بعد قليل بدأ
صوت الرعد في الظهور، وبدأ المطر (زِنَب بالأمهرية) الثقيل في الإنهمار.. لم
تمر عشرة دقائق حتى أتى أتوبيس، هرولنا إليه وسط المطر والطين.. كان الطريق
أكثر صعوبة من المجيء في المطر والأرض الزَلِقة.. وكانت الميزة الوحيدة للمطر
هي عدم دخول الأتربة إلى داخل العربة كما حدث في طريق المجيء.. استغرق الطريق
لتلك القرية ساعتان كاملتان!! ثم بعده أخذت عربة أخرى إلى مكاليه استغرق
الطريق إليها ثلاث ساعات!!! وكان هذا هو أكثر يوم متعباً رأيته (حتى الآن!)،
حيث لم أنل قسطاً من النوم بالأمس، وبدأت هذا اليوم من الخامسة فجراً.. ووصلت
إلى الفندق في التاسعة مساءً..

One of the funny things
that many of the shopkeepers, in hotels or in cars ask: “Where are you
from?” I reply: “What do you think?” Very few say Egypt.. Some say Italy
or Israel.. But in the past few days they started to say: “Habashano”?
Which means looking like those from
Habesha.. It was nice.. I tell them that I am “Africano” (African), and we
drink from the water of the Nile that comes from Habasha.. 🙂

من الطريف أنه
كثيراً ما يسأل أصحاب المحال أو في الفنادق أو العربات سؤال: من أين أنت..
فأرد: ماذا تظن.. قلة قليلة هي التي تقول مصري.. والبعض يقول من إيطاليا أو
إسرائيل.. وفي آخر بضعة أيام.. بدأ البعض يقول: “حبشانو”؟ شبيه بأهل
الحبشة.. وكان أمراً طريفاً.. وأخبرهم بأنني “أفريكانو” (أفريقي)، وأننا نشرب
من ماء النيل الذي يأتينا من الحبشة.. 🙂
